Today’s pretty midwest wedding is all about bright colors and country details. I love this couple’s story – Bobby gave Erin a yellow rose on their first date, and they got engaged in a rose garden, so naturally yellow and roses had to be a big part of their wedding day. The couple found the Shepherd’s Hill Farm in Montgomery, Minnesota to be a perfect fit for their summer wedding. And speaking of bright colors, color me surprised when I read that the bride MADE HER DRESS. Ultimate DIY, you guys. And I love that she changed into her cowboy boots for the reception. Keep reading for more of the bride’s thoughts on their beautiful wedding celebration.
From the bride: “We both work in the architecture and engineering field and wanted something unique as well as fun for all of the children we would be inviting. Our search ended in a barn in Montgomery, MN not far from my house. That is when our DIY projects began. Our projects ranged from a “here comes the bride” sign and a place card holder made by Bobby.
“I picked simple black dresses for the bridesmaids so I could add color in other areas. To incorporate the outdoor wedding and bright colors we made our napkins and napkin rings, and my aunt who loves flowers designed our centerpieces in mason jars tying into the theme.
“The most exciting and challenging project was my dress. After trying on many dresses that had a lot of “extras”, I wanted something simple as well as to be able to design and make it myself. 12 yards of pearl silk taffeta arrived for my dress and the flower girl dress just 3 months before the wedding. Several design changes and mock-ups later I had a wedding dress made with love.
“We were married on a perfect August day with our close friends and family. We were blessed to have our family friend and pastor marry us. All of the little details we spent so much time and love on were captured beautifully by our photographer Amy Majors. We cannot say thank you enough and are so happy to have so many wonderful images that capture our special day.”
Congrats to Bobby and Erin!

Sun flowers are a great choice to vivify the whole decor and to stay in theme plus that I love the joyful look of the bride with yellow matching shoes…congrats!
