Is it a YES for this Wedding Dress?

Think About this before Saying YES to the Wedding Dress

For the soon-to-be brides out there, are you currently stressing yourself out in choosing the perfect wedding dress for your big day? How many dress shops have you visited? How many dresses have you tried and said “No, this is not the dress for me?” Or maybe a dress which you like but the entire Team Bride immediately raised that board saying “LEAVE IT!” I’m sure you are torn between choosing what you love and at the same time what your entire entourage likes.

So, how will you be able to say that the dress that you fit is already the dress for you? How will you be able to convince the bride team and also yourself that it will be the dress that you’ll wear as you exchange your vows and share the sweetest I DO and most romantic first kiss as husband and wife on your big day? Well, aside from standing in of a mirror while wearing that dress, having the majority of the bride team agrees with you in choosing that dress, there are actually several signs to help you decide if you are already ready to SAY YES TO THAT WEDDING DRESS!

1. The dress may not be the dress that you imagined but, you fell in love with it.

We all have that kind of dress that we always imagined wearing during the special days of our lives. Even during the first date, I surely know that you always picture yourself wearing the most beautiful wedding dress gown you have in your closet. What’s more during the big day? One thing is for sure! We ladies all dreamt of becoming a princess or even a queen during our wedding day.

However, sometimes, our dream dress doesn’t look perfect for the big day. So, we need to look for another option and this time, it’s a dress which is completely opposite to the dress that we imagine to wear. If you ever fit a dress, face the mirror and immediately imagine yourself walking down the aisle with that dress and as you think about it, the tears start to fall, maybe it’s a sign for you to say YES.

2. You never want to take the dress off.

Another sign that you have completely fallen in love with the wedding dress is that you never want to take it off the moment you saw yourself in that dress. You just want to take it home even if it’s not yet altered. You just want to sleep wearing it and wish that tomorrow’s the wedding day. Sounds funny but, this really happens in reality! We can finally say it’s our dress if we don’t want to take our eyes out of it and it makes us feel more excited for our big day.

3. You’re comfortable with it, irregardless of the dress style, length and design.

Comfortability over style. Remember, you’ll wear this dress during the entire event. From the ceremony to the venue, you’ll entertain the guests wearing the same dress. If you’re not comfortable with what you’re wearing, do you think you’ll be able to enjoy your big day?

Well, if you’re not comfortable with your dress, the only thing that you’ll surely think about on your big day is when to finally take off your dress coz it’s making you too uncomfortable.

4. You’ll Never Exchange it for Another Wedding Dress

Yes, there are other gorgeous dresses out there that the bride team would like you to try on. But, once you have chosen your dress, you won’t mind all the other dresses around you. You only want the same dress over and over again. You’ll even argue and will surely say “This is my dress/this dress is for me.” It’s about time to say YES to the dress if you never consider to try on other dresses around you.

5. You feel like a Princess or even a Queen while Wearing the Dress

Nothing beats the feeling of being a princess or a queen during your big day. Of course, this feeling will never be complete without a stunning dress. When you put on your dress, do you imagine yourself as a pretty queen walking down the aisle? Ask yourself “Is this the dress that gives me a feeling of being a queen my wedding day?”

If your answer is no, then you definitely need to try on several dresses more. But if your answer is yes, then there’s no need to think twice! You should say YES to that Wedding Dress!

Planning your wedding on your own and with just the help of friends is really quite difficult. Plus, deciding what wedding dress to use will surely be between you and the bride team. They may like what you do not like and hate what you love. But, there is one thing that you always need to REMEMBER: It’s your dress and not theirs. So make sure that you are comfortable with the dress that you will choose. It should be perfect for your big day.

DIY: Floral Crowns

I am obsessed with floral crowns and even more obsessed to see how with a little bit of work and time I was able to create my very own DIY floral crowns.

       \

Supplies

  • Greenery cut 2-3 inches long
  • Flowers cut 2-3 inches long
  • Floral Tape
  • Floral Wire
  • Wire Cutters

Time

  • 30- 45 Minutes

Difficulty

  • This was one of the more difficult DIY’s I have attempted. Don’t let it discourage you from trying it out though. Make a few as practice before you need the final product.

Take the wire and measure a circle around your head to see how big to make the crown. Leave just a bit extra so you can tie it off and trim the wire to size.

Wrap the wire with floral tape. This was surprisingly tougher than it sounds. The floral tape will not stick to the wire, but rather stick to itself.

Start by covering the crown with your greenery by attaching the end of the greens to the wire with floral tape. Wrap each piece of greenery you attach to the wire with 3-4 times around with floral tape.

If there are any pieces that are sticking up, use a small amount of floral tape to attach the pieces in other places to the wire.

Once your greens are down you can start adding the flowers. Using the same technique to attach the flowers to wire that we did in the winter boutonniere (you can click here to check it out). Wrap the wire around the crown base, and cover with floral tape.

Once you are happy with your crown twist the ends together to complete the circle!

Place upon your head, and you’re finished!

*When placing the flowers and greenery, I tried to make things as symmetrical as possible. Pick a spot to be the center of your crown, and work back and fourth to keep the piece looking balanced. Also, the thicker the floral wire the more sturdy your crown will be.

We want to see your floral crowns! Post your photos to our Facebook wall or tag @DIYBrideBlog on Instagram.

Xoxo,

Alex

DIY Tutorial: Wire Love Necklace

This wire necklace is an easy way to create a unique piece in very little time.  Honestly, the whole necklace from start to finish took me 5 minutes at most.

Materials:

  • 2 – 3mm jump rings
  • 6.5 inches of 24 gauge wire
  • 1 – 16″ metal chain
  • 1 ring clasp
  • 1 – 6mm jump ring
  • Wire cutter
  • Round nose pliers
  • Flat nose pliers

Estimated cost: $10

Directions:

1. To start this project, you’ll need to print off or freehand the word ‘Love.’  Make sure to choose a font where the letters are connected (Lucida Handwriting is a good one in Word).  You’ll be using the printout as a guide for the shaping the wire.

2.Starting 3/4 of an inch from one end, begin shaping the L with the round nose pliers.  Start at the top and work your way down (see pictures below).

3. Continue to shape the wire until the word is completed.

4. At the end of the first and last letter, create a small circle for the jump rings.

5. Attach the jump rings to both circles, thread chain through on each side, and attach a clasp and jump ring to finish the piece off.

This necklace could be used as a gift for bridesmaids, flower girls or any other special gal in your bridal party, and can be easily customized into other words or even names!

Tulle Flower Shoe Pins

If you feel like your wedding shoes could do with a little bit of sumpn’ sumpn’ don’t be afraid to grab a hold of some scissors and get creative. Making your own shoe embellishments is actually super fast, easy and cheap. You don’t even need fancy bits and pieces or tools.

Plus, if you make your own shoe pins, you can match them exactly to your wedding color scheme, the color of your husband’s eyes or use them as sneaky way to incorporate your “something blue” into the wedding. And since they’re completely versatile and movable, your DIY shoe pins can even tie the bridesmaids’ shoes together if your gals have chosen different styles. Here’s how to make the magic happen:

Materials:

  • Chiffon or tulle material
  • Needle
  • Thread (in color that matches the material))
  • Material scissors
  • Hairpins
  • Shoes

Directions:

Step 1: Cut two pieces of material

Cut two pieces of material. Each one should be a bit wider and approximately seven times longer than the hairpins.

Step 2: Fold material

Fold the material in a zigzag pattern.

Step 3: Slide into pin

Pinch the material in the center and slide it into a hairpin. Make sure it’s even on both sides and on both pins.

Step 4: Slide pins onto shoes

Slide the pins onto the center part of your shoes and make sure that they are balanced.

TIP: If you worry about cutting and sewing around your wedding shoes (particularly if they’re white), you can always use a different pair to do the crafting and then move the pins to your wedding shoes once they’re done.

Step 5: Trim

Pinch the material to the center and trim it by half an inch. Repeat so that both pins look the same.

Step 6: Pinch and sew

Pinch the material up and sew the material from one side of the pin to the other until the shape is even and looks nice. Repeat with the second pin.

Step 7: Trim

Use the material scissors to trim both flowers on the pins to shape. Once you’re finished you can take them off and put them back on as you like.

Personalized Bridesmaid’s Necklace

Your bridesmaids are pretty special people – after all you chose them for a reason. Plus there’s a good chance they’re going to help to dress you on your big day, so you want to make sure they’re feeling appreciated.

Finding fitting bridesmaids’ gifts isn’t always easy. You’re probably working to a budget, would like the gift to be memorable (yet also practical so that they get good use out of it), and — of course — you want your favorite ladies to love it.

Worry not, we have the perfect answer: a personalized necklace. It’s easy, inexpensive, has a personal touch that’ll pull on their heart strings and — conveniently — you can see how to make it happen right here. Bingo!

Materials:

  • Chandelier crystals
  • Paper
  • Pen
  • Mod Podge dimensional magic
  • Burlap twine
  • Washi tape

Directions:

Step 1: Place the crystal over the paper

Play around with your paper by sliding the crystal over it until you find an area that looks interesting. Then trace around it to mark it.

Step 2: Personalize

Using your pen write the name of your bridesmaid (or bridesmaids), a memorable quote or a special message on your paper tracing. Make a few extras so you have some options.

Step 3: Cut out the pieces

Cut out the pieces you’ve prepared and take another look at how they look by placing the chandelier crystal over the top. Select your favorite for each bridesmaid.

Step 4: Mod Podge

Cover the pack of the chandelier crystal with Mod Podge Dimensional Magic, however keep it light around the area where the writing is or it will smudge. Mod Podge Dimensional Magic is water soluble, so keep a moistened paper towel around and wipe any areas that the Mod Podge leaks onto but isn’t wanted.

Step 5: Place the paper

Gently place the paper onto the back of the chandelier crystal and smooth it down with a paper towel, while being careful not to moisten the area that has the writing. Pat the excess Mod Podge away with a paper towel.

Step 6: Stick washi tape to the back

Once the back has dried (give it a good six hours for best results), stick strips of washi tape over the back and trim them to the size of the crystal.

Step 7: Make a second washi tape layer

Repeat the process in step 6 by sticking down a second layer of washi tape over the back of the crystal and trimming it to size.

Step 8: Cover the back in Mod Podge

Now coat the back of the pendant in Mod Podge Dimensional Magic, again being more sparing in the area where the writing is to avoid smudging. Leave it to dry for at least six hours.

Step 9: Cut the twine

Measure out the length you would like the necklace to be and cut the twine to size. I used 32-inch pieces for my necklaces.

Step 10: Thread the twine

Thread the twine through the top of the chandelier crystal and secure in place.

Step 11: Repeat

Repeat the steps until you have personalized necklaces for all of your bridesmaids.
