Our love story goes a little something like this…

Over 12 years ago Felix and I met on a church altar, as he was introduced to me as my new guitar player for a group I was in. (He told me that, I don’t remember lol) We went on to being friends and meeting up occasionally because we had a lot of mutual friends.

Felix says that I stood him up one night (for what was suppose to be our first official date), lol…very true. Because of that, we didn’t speak for a while. Fast forward 5 years, we found a mutual interest, House of Cards. We set up a time to watch it and hang out (the new season was said to be released in 4 months…bummer).

Later that week, we decided to hang out before the season would air. At that time, we haven’t seen each other in 4 months!! We went out, I was on crutches and he was so proud to be with me and my broken foot. I knew it was real from then. That was the official part of the introduction of our love story.

He proposed in Puerto Rico and we got married there as well. Choosing Puerto Rico as our destination wedding location was easy! Puerto Rico is beautiful, rich in culture, rich in activities and the FOOD AMAZING! It was fun, creative, filled with love and epic! One weekend filled with three epic days of activities. From ATV’s, to street fairs, to a large catered dinner at Raices, to the Bacardi Factory tour every detail was carefully thought out. My husband and I even rented a van to keep the traveling parties together (we even tried some singalongs). We created epic pieces like our guest globe and our mad-libs for the guest to share their blessings/date tips with us. The Mr & Mrs sign was a special project that we worked on together as well. It was simple, cute and fun! This Professional DIY Wedding was one for the books!

REAL WEDDING: Julia + Trung’s Pismo Beach Wedding

Julia and Trung had the beautiful bluffs of Pismo beach as a gorgeous backdrop to this bright wedding. Their wedding was held at the Inn at the Cove and used pops of color and DIY elements to personalize their special day! Check out their wedding below.

I love how this couple incorporated a subtle hint of yellow with the bridesmaids and groomsmen attire, but used vibrate pops with their flowers.

The save the dates, guestbook, and signage found around the wedding venue were DIY elements that the couple worked on together.

The groom even made the tassels that lined the ceremony space and other decorative tables.

These paper fans are adorable and helped keep the guests cool during the ceremony.

Probably one of the most personal DIY elements was the taiko performance by the bride’s father and family.  Julia even got in on the drumming action. How special!

Congrats to the happy couple and thank you for sharing your beachy wedding with the DIY Bride readers.

Xoxo,

Alex

Crystal + Aron’s DIY Beach Wedding

All the crazy weather lately makes me want to escape to this super relaxed and cozy DIY beach wedding down in Pensacola Beach, Florida. Captured by Kate of Kate’s Captures Photography, Crystal + Aron’s wedding featured lots of blue and green, unique center pieces, games, DIY decor, and lots and lots of desserts (family recipes!!) and sand.

For their beach wedding held on 11.11.11, Crystal + Aron had some pretty good DIY decor that’s good to construct for any event. They had lots of blue and green patterned cloth that Crystal’s mom sewn together to make interesting buntings and ribbon garlands. For their center pieces, they incorporated ocean-related elements like sand, starfish, and actual small fish in the bottle! To keep their guests entertained, they had fun games prepared corn hole and bocce ball and made signs indicating where each station is. I like that they even had a sign and a section on the beach dedicated for guests’ shoes! And in addition to have a wedding cake, Crystal + Aron had a big sweets table filled with various family recipes in personal sizes.

Games, sweets, friends and family, and a gorgeous beach wedding… what more do you need to relax and enjoy yourself?? Crystal + Aron captured our hearts with their DIY details and our appetite for sweets with that dessert spread. Much congratulations goes to our beautiful couple!

Kirstin + Jeremy’s Orange & Teal Wedding

Kirstin + Jeremy’s hot summer wedding in Virginia was full of vibrant colors such as orange and teal. This fun wedding photographed by Beth Hamilton Photography was full of lighthearted moments, bright colors, and topped with a water view.

Kirstin + Jeremy worked on many DIY projects for their summer nuptials. I’m super impressed with the beautiful arbor Jeremy hand built for the ceremony. But the paper crafting is the main show here. All paper decors, including the programs, were DIY. The two framed “B”s in buttons were awesome and completed the look of the hanging paper wheels and paper flowers in matching colors. I also really like their use of big project board and turned it into a “Love” board for the gifts table. The unique centerpieces were eclectic, simple, and playful… and I just love it!

Kirsten + Jeremy’s wedding at The Planter’s Club in Virginia has been super fun to feature. Not only was the decor awesome, but the vibe that our couple set for themselves and for their guests were evident everywhere- from the shades they all wore to the group merry-go-around/laying-on-each-other at the end of the night- that this wedding is a big party for all the friends and family.

Congratulations to Kirsten + Jeremy!!!

Katie + Alycia’s Forever Entwined Wedding

Katie + Alycia has been together for 5 years and wanted to get married in New York. Reminisce Photography encapsulated many beautiful moments and details from this beautiful couple. There were many cute DIYs shown throughout the day… from the flowers to the center pieces… to the decor. In fact, their wedding cake was made by none other than Alycia herself (it helps that she is a pastry chef)! I also adore their super cute ring bearer!

There’s nothing more heartwarming to see than all those special moments Katie + Alycia got to have with their moms on their big day… awwwwww! Congratulations to the two of you! Thank you for sharing this fun wedding with DIY Bride!

Eleni + Rich’s Nautical Engagement Session

So there’s a storm a-comin’!  You know what that means?  It means I long for warm summer days and romantic waterside picnics so badly!  So when I caught a glimpse of Eleni + Rich’s perfectly nautical e-sesh from  No Eye Has Seen, I figured this would be the perfect distraction to keep me all warm and fuzzy while the snow falls this weekend!

With a real lobster dinner on the piers, Eleni and Rich styled this session to reflect their lifestyle and love perfectly!  Colors, textures, and fashions all created a sweet and sophisticated New England kind of romance.

Even though they are feeling the cold an weathering the storm too, Eleni and RIch’s engagement session has certainly brightened my day!  Thank you No Eye Has Seen for sharing this cute, coastal e-sesh.  Congratulations Eleni and Rich!  We hope you’ll share your wonderfully nautical wedding with us too!

Kaitlin + Joshua’s Budget Friendly, Vintage Wedding Weekend

So can we talk about how this wedding just has awesome written all over it!? Becoming Images captured a wonderfully eclectic wedding weekend held at historic Camp Casey on Whidbey Island that included all of the things that create a memorable event. Starting with family, friends, and the perfect location Kaitlin and Joshua celebrated their nuptials on the gorgeous coastal property her grandfather managed which held wonderful memories to set the tone of this perfectly vintage (and re-usable) day. But the day gets even better. It includes picnics, ice cream trucks, outdoor dance parties, and some pure beach romance all for under $10K!

From the bride:

The wedding was inspired by my love of crafting and vintage things and our love of the idea of conscientiously reusing. Therefore, we were shooting for an antique, DIY picnic theme with an overall budget was $8,500. Several people thoughtfully donated their time and talents to pull off this budget.

Kaitlin crafted loads of little details for this perfect day; everything from ribbon wands, clothespins, photo frames, paper flowers, bout and bouqs to the bridesmaids sashes, flower girl hairbands and the beer and cider! To maintain the re-usable nature of the day many of the details were either borrowed or upcycled, like the wine bottles used as water carafes in the picnic baskets and the picnic quilts themselves.

Thank you Penny McGoey from Becoming Images for sharing this insanely beautiful wedding with us. Congratulations Kaitlin and Joshua!

Ashley + Joey’s Eco-friendly Costa Rica Wedding (need imgs)

Definitely in the top five of my “things I’m thankful for” list are destination weddings!  Especially ones in exotic and tropical locations like Ashley + Joey’s that incorporated all kinds of green DIY and are captured so perfectly by talented photographers like Katherine Stinnett Photography.  Ashley and Joey wed where they got engaged in Costa Rica, and with some help from friends, family and one heck of a DIY dream event planner, they all created a wondrous aura of adventure, peace, serenity, and perfection.

From the planner:

In our years of living in the Mal Pais / Sta Teresa area we have come to realize that the beauty of it all lies in NATURE. It is this that inspires our design ,that gives us the urge to create and celebrate love. The need to conserve what we have and utilize what is already here, this is the reason we work with natural elements and upcycled items, minimizing the ecological impact in our little piece of paradise and using our creativeness to execute magical moments without making an impact on our planet.

Ashley’s got that perfect color sense to know a good aura when she sees one- and so she choose Mal Pais Green Weddings and Events to coordinate this lovely day.  They not only stick to their commitment to the environment but also are stellar crafters.  They created the beer bottle candelabras, the coconut fiber wrapped succulent pots, the driftwood signs, and the gorgeous bamboo arch made of bamboo from a local garden.  Ashley’s grandmother, who could not attend, created the invite itineraries and menus.

Thank you to Katherine Stinnett Photography, and Mal Pais Green Weddings for sharing and creating this beautiful beach soiree!  Congratulations Ashley and Joey!

Jen + Greg’s Surprise Beach Wedding

Well it’s no surprise that we love weddings here.  But, surprise!!!  This is best kind of wedding yet.  A whole new twist on DIY for me.  And one that I am surprisingly loving!  This wedding was a surprise to their guests!  Jen and Greg had secretly been planning their wedding for months.  Guests thought Greg had invited them to be witnesses to a secret proposal when the tables turned and- Voila!  Fooled you! Greeting their guests with a “we’re getting married right now” hello, guests were escorted to an amazing vintage beach ceremony followed a vintage seaside reception.  Blue Lane Studios not-so-surprisingly captured every last detail and heartfelt moment perfectly.

From the photographer:

Something that touches my heart so deeply are the emotional reactions to Jen and Greg’s revelation of their plans..so many tears of joy and so much laughter. One reason they wanted to plan their wedding for when they did was so that Jen’s mom could witness and be a part of it. Her mom had been diagnosed with the as yet incurable Sjogrens Syndrome, and it was heartbreaking to think that her mom might not see the day her daughter got married. Greg’s mom was beside herself with happiness, and had already considered Jen as a daughter for years. It was the emotional icing on the cake that they were getting married!

The cottages that Jen and Greg rented from Scruggs Harbor Vacation Rental provided the perfect vintage beach backdrop for their vintage Hawaiian, tikis, and glass decor.  Thanks to Blue Lane Studios for choosing to surprise us and share this wedding.  Congratulations Jen and Greg!
