Taylor is a chef so he cooked all of the food and was able to smoke the brisket at The Porch where he works in advance. We helped a few friends with their weddings so they were amazing with returning the favor and setting the food out for us and watching it throughout the evening. (Ethan and Bonnie Phillips) Smoked brisket, smoked ham Mac and cheese, fingerling potato salad, mixed greens with blood orange vinaigrette, assorted homegrown pickled veggies, home fermented hot sauce, bbq sauce. The best part of the food for us was that we were able to grow all of the pickles and peppers for Taylor to make the hot sauce and pickles with! The only thing Taylor didn’t have his hands on was my fish. I am a pescatarian so unfortunately couldn’t eat the brisket.” – Mallorie

Mallorie was able to keep her wedding on a budget by shopping in unique places to get good quality items at an affordable price. Her wedding dress is Allure Bridals which was purchased on a Lakewood Facebook Yardsale. Alterations were done at Martha’s Alterations. The seamstress transformed the dress into something
that was magical! Originally, it was way too large and she made it fit like a glove! Mallorie’s shoes were purchased on Amazon and was Betsey Johnson but above all they were something blue! Her old and borrowed was Taylor’s grandmothers Bracelet that was passed down to Taylor’s Mother. It was a special treat for Mallorie
to take part in the heirloom.

Now on to a few groom details… Taylor wore a Combatant Gentleman suit paired with a tie from The Tie Bar. His shoes were Meermin Mallorca. He spoiled his groomsmen with Timex watches all with different bands. The
couple thought it would be fun to give the guys their favorite band t shirts to wear as undershirts. The groomsmen loved the personal thank you gift!

Mallorie couldn’t have celebrated with out her ‘maids by her side! She went with these VonVonni Bridesmaid dresses for the simple reason that all the dresses were the same and are able to transform into so many different looks!

“ Dawn Robinson made the most beautiful bouquets I have ever seen! My mom and Dawn have been best friends since they were 17 years old. She was one of the biggest power players in making this whole thing happen. My friend Katie Klein and I picked out flowers from The Flower Market. I made Taylor’s boutineer and
Katie made the rest. I put way too many projects on my plate and so many people swooped in to help finish them all.” – Mallorie

There were quite a few DIY and budget savy project Mallorie and her family took on. Mallorie saw a picture of a cake topper and decided she could make it herself, so she did and it turned out great! A close friend, Mallory Uvere makes cakes and cupcakes so she helped create the desserts for the evening. Mallorie bought the plates from a local wedding Facebook page. It just so happened that the woman selling the plates is a caterer. Mallorie shared her dilemma of the wedding coordinator quitting so she offered to step in. The box the ring bearer was holding was upgraded with a few DIY accessories. Mallorie used corks from random bottles in the house and hot glued them in as holders.

“I saw a similar altar on Pinterest and made it. I bought the wood and stained it. Hung lace curtains and put together some bouquets from craft store flowers. I took the birdcage from my backyard decor and it turned out beautiful! I put it up in my yard and realized I made it for a giant at first lol. Luckilly my sister threw a crafting bridal shower and one of my gifts was a full size Dremmel Saw-Max so I easily cut it down to normal person height. I bought used shepherds hooks and attached mason jars using ribbon. We then filled them with babies breath.”, Mallorie discussing her Do It Yourself Altar project.

Wine Box- I bought the box at Hobby lobby and cut corks and got glued them in to hold it steady in the box. The corks are from the wine we drank the day we got engaged. 🙂 We enclosed letters in the box and we will open them and drink the wine on our first anniversary.

From the small details such as Table name cards to the big details like the altar and aisle, Mallorie and taylor cut down the costs by making the decor and wedding necessities by hand or purchased and resurfaced. The couple was lucky enough to be surrounded by talented and giving people that used their talents to assist in making their wedding the best it could be! The DJ, the officiant, and a few other key
pieces of the night were good friends. It definitely made for a night of appreciation, love, gratitude, and togetherness!

Mallorie and Taylor saved on their honeymoon in a smart way! They attended their neighbors wedding in Colorado and then stayed with them to have a couples retreat in Colorado before heading back home

REAL WEDDINGS: Travis + Desirea’s Vineyard wedding

When it comes to DIYs there is not much this couple didn’t tackle. We are absolutely obsessed with all of these personal touches that Desirea and Travis included in their April 11th, 2015 vineyard wedding.

This fun loving couple met in a calculous class while attending college in North Carolina. While the bride is a self proclaimed chocolate lover, and the groom loves pickles, one thing they could agree on was their love of beer and of each other… of course! How fun is their alcohol themed guest book?

Their love of beer was also incorporated into these fun boutonnieres for the groomsmen.

The couples’ shared love of literature was also showcased throughout their table decorations.

From library card themed seating arrangements to hand painted book covers done by the groom. There are so many other subtle touches mixed around their table decor.

We cannot forget the stunning bride. Just about every accessory was a DIY project, from her bridal sash to her bouquet created by her mom!

How about this adorable cake also courtesy of the Fontaine Vineyards.

A special thank you to Fete Photography, Desirea, and Travis for sharing this beautiful Asheville, NC wedding.

Real Wedding: Cori + Kevin’s Rustic Central Coast Wedding

Cori and Kevin have known each other since they were 14 years old. They were neighbors, went to school together, and Cori said that while they never dated in high school, she sure had a big crush on him! When she ran into Kevin at a Fourth of July party in 2007, she didn’t let him out of her sight. They spent the entire summer together, but when fall rolled around, he moved back to San Luis Obispo. The move wasn’t enough to keep them apart, and they decided to keep things going long distance. After what Cori refers to as “six months of shenanigans”, she decided to move to be close to him. It ended up to be the best decision she ever made, and since then, they have spent eight years on the Central Coast together.

Cori said that her wedding was a dream come true, a “rustic, DIY love fest on top of a mountain.”  They got married at a privately owned venue, a barn on a hill in Prefumo Canyon with panoramic views of the city. From the ceremony site you could see Morro Rock and the Pismo dunes, with the rolling hills of San Luis right behind them.  It was a gorgeous location.

Almost all of their vendors were close friends, so everything was personalized and customized for the couple, making the day extra special.  Friends and family supported them through the whole planning process and helped to make their day absolutely perfect.  She said it was the most special and glorious day that she could ever imagine!

Their dessert table was absolute yummy perfection! We love all of the different colors, homemade touches, and the array of options.

From the custom seating chart and multiple signs to the breathtaking backdrop and smiles on this gorgeous couple’s faces, this wedding was one for the record books!

Haley + Seth’s Cute and Offbeat DIY Wedding

Today’s wedding is full of love, laughter, and DIY prettiness. Captured by Sur La Lune Photography, Haley + Seth DIY all their decorations. Coffee filter flowers? Check. DIY photo booth background? Check. Large piñatas that doubled as “hanging decorations”? Check. Come see for yourself how fun this wedding was!

Not only did Haley opted to not wear the traditional white, she and Seth also opted to get ready together and helped each other dress for their big day. Although Haley + Seth worked on many DIY decor projects, my ultimate love are the large coffee filter flowers that were carried by the flower girls. And how about them piñatas? What a fun, cool idea to have!

Congratulations to Haley + Seth!!

Becca + Mike’s E-Session at Valley Forge National Park

Today’s Fall E-session from Lindsay Docherty Photography is gorgeous with all the gold and browns. How can it be not when the weather was great and the Valley Forge National Park had all the amazing colors.

According to the photographer Lindsay Docherty, Becca + Mike is, in a way, total opposites. She’s petite and he’s a “big lug”. She loves and is good at shopping, while he’s awesome at mowing stripes on the lawn. I love that they share how when they first met at a mutual friend’s party years ago, Becca basically Facebook stalked him and messaged him before they went out on their first date. I love it because let’s face it, who doesn’t do that these days???

The love between the two is apparent and combined with the gorgeous setting, you get one awesome e-session.

Laura + Keith’s DIY Country Barn Wedding

For this beautiful Friday, we’re showcasing a DIY barn wedding from Gray Photography. Laura + Keith collected all the mismatched tables and chairs for their reception from Craigslist for a year. And with major help from the family, they were able to completely re-finished and decorate the barn, including growing their own moss, flowers, and gourds used for the wedding!

Something neat to share: amidst all the tables Laura + Keith had collected, one in particular was super special to the family. And that’s because one grandfather of theirs was born on that special kitchen table!

Great job on the awesome barn decor and much congratulations to Laura + Keith!

Kyle + Nick’s Sweet Pink Country Chic Wedding

This sweet, romantic, and country chic wedding featuring Kyle + Nick is a must see today. With beautiful photography by BrittRene Photo, this gorgeous wedding has lots of amazing DIYs, which took Kyle over a year and half to put together! But it was the community of family and friends who came to help Kyle + Nick with setting all the details together to pull off the wedding of their dreams.

The DIY details from Kyle:

“All the projects were DIY. And it most defiantly took a year and a half to get all those projects done. The long planning, execution and frustration of it all, paid off in the end. From the flowers which were beautifully arranged by a very talented family friend, to the desserts which were lovingly made by several women in the family. Every detail meant something and had a personal touch. Our planner Monica Currier, and her awesome assistant Chaili Trentham, knocked it out of the park. Our friends worked tirelessly to place candles in the creek bed, put up lanterns, and lovingly help make our dream day a reality. The thing that blew us away the most was the community of people that came to help. We would not have had this perfect, I mean really perfect, day without our friends and family. That is why our wedding meant so much, it was hand-made with love.”
Strung lights with paper lanterns all across the outdoor reception area really romanticize the wedding. The bridal party looked incredibly gorgeous, and the pale pink bridesmaid dresses also worked really well with the overall romantic look of the wedding. My favorite part of the wedding, which added a whimsical and offbeat side to the ceremony is that their “flower girl/boy/man” is one of their friends. According to the bride, Kyle + Nick were introduced by their friend Landon. They had promised him that if they ever get married, he will be their “flower man”. And boy did he rock it!

Congratulations to Kyle + Nick for throwing such an awesome DIY wedding, and much thanks to BrittRene Photo for sharing it with us!

Summer + Gabe’s Lovely Country Backyard Wedding

Summer + Gabe decided to get married at Gabe’s childhood neighborhood, courtesy of a friend’s backyard. This super relaxed and homey affair is nothing short of gorgeousness. With every detail well-thought out by Summer and with photography by Courtney Bowlden Photography, I got quite a few awe-inspiring photos to show you (think hanging paper lantern on apple trees)!

Summer took it upon herself to do all the decorations and flower arrangements for the wedding. What’s interesting and money-saving(!) was that she didn’t have any particular flowers in mind; rather, she picked up the flowers at a flower stand on the side of the road and just ran with what she had. A very nice touch they had at the wedding was that rather than just hanging up photos of the two of them and/or family, they honor all the friends and family who came by incorporating a lot of photos of them around the yard. For their guestbook, Summer found vintage post cards at antique stores and decided to leave them out for guests to write on, which she’ll then use them to make into a book. And Gabe’s contribution? He did an awesome job DIYing by hand-carving the ring box and center pieces
According to the photographer Courtney Bowlden, Summer and Gabe included an old tradition of jumping over lavender after the wedding, which she has not seen before. Something cute she also shared with us is that after the ceremony, Summer took Gabe’s niece, who was their flower girl, around to look for little baby frogs. The result? Summer caught one and Courtney Bowlden took some awesome photos with it.

Congratulations to Summer + Gabe for a beautiful laid-back wedding!!

Rachel + Jared’s Sweet Mint Green Wedding

We’re kicking off this week with an adorably sweet mint green wedding from Karen Feder Photography. Rachel + Jared, along with their family and friends, created a very earthy-vintage vibe for their big day. One of the first thing that caught my eyes were Rachel’s ombre mix of mint green for her bridesmaids dresses. It’s sweet, down-to-earth, carefree, and yet all seamlessly flow with one another!

For DIY projects, Rachel and her mom actually planted her centerpieces in her grandfather’s pots. I totally love this as planting and watering flowers is an activity that they loved doing ever since Rachel was a little girl and they continued that tradition with her wedding. Rachel + Jared created a wedding mad libs for guests to do and use Jinga pieces for their guest book as nods to how they both enjoy playing games. For group projects, family got together to help make cheesecakes for the cheesecake bar (yuuuum!!) and the reception area was decorated with an array of paper flowers that Rachel and her friends and family made.
What a sweet, lovely wedding! I absolutely adore the softness of Rachel’s romantic bouquet, and I especially love the unique center pieces and the hanging of paper lanterns inside of the tent. It’s all simple, yet meaningful and beautiful. And how cute were all the kids!

Congratulations to Rachel + Jared, and many thanks to Karen Feder Photography for submitting this heartfelt DIY wedding with us!

Jennie + Morgan’s Great Outdoors Engagement Session

Jennie + Morgan share a mutual love for the great outdoors, so it’s a no-brainer that when it comes time to do their engagement shoot, they chose Clear Lake in Oregon, as it is one of the places they love to hike. One of the coolest part of their engagement shoot by Simply Kissed Photography is that apparently, they brought their own “engagement canoe” for the shoot. I can’t wait to share with all you awesome readers this all-American, great outdoors engagement shoot!
