Real Wedding: Jessica + Joey David Lakeside Wedding

Over the moon to share one of our October weddings with y’all. Since the beginning of 2016 I have had the pleasure to work with the mother of the bride for this fun, rustic wedding at Hideaway Lake in Carrier, Mississippi. When I asked Jessica the bride what the inspiration behind the wedding day she said, “I told my mother that I wanted Vintage Chic, she incorporated that along with more than I could have dreamed of, and it came together beautifully.”

Fun fact is that Jessica and Joey met at in kindergarten at Pleasant Hill Elementary School in Pleasant Hill, CA. They were very close friends for 16 years before the two decided to start dating in July of 2007. Joey proposed on their 8 year anniversary at the same location he asked Jessica to be his girlfriend, at a lookout point in Berkeley, CA called Fish Ranch Road. It has a beautiful view of the San Francisco Bay and is stunning at night time lit up by all the cities lights. I mean, how precious!

We asked Jessica for some future advice for brides planning, “Think of what you are envisioning for your day. Mixing and matching Vintage, Rustic, Chic can be so romantic and there are so many ways to put a fun twist on it. The possibilities are endless…”

Favorite Memories of the Day: We had a lot of wonderful memories from our Wedding Day!

#1.) Seeing the look on his face when he saw me for the first time walking down the aisle. It seriously felt like no one else was there except for us. Sort of like tunnel vision.

#2.) We loved lighting off Chinese Lanterns down on the beach when it got dark out. It was a fun activity for everyone to do and made for beautiful photos.

#3.) Having so many of our friends and family fly/drive out to Mississippi from all over the country to celebrate with us. It was awesome that people were willing to make the trip, to a place most of them had never been before, just to see us get married. We felt so much love and support on our Wedding Day.

Heather + Chris’ DIY Wedding at the Family Farm

Our second feature for the day is brought to us by Nikki May Day Photography. This colorful summer wedding was held at a farm belonging to Heather’s relatives in Pennsylvania, featuring Lake Erie (for the ceremonial site) and a big barn where the reception was held nearby.

Both Heather + Chris are creative people (Heather art directed and Chris handled design and production). Together, they put lots of neat special touches to their day. From the photographer:

“They designed their own Save the Dates, Invitations, Thank You’s and Programs and they were AWESOME. They even designed their own H&D temporary tattoo’s (which were a huge hit) as well as making their own light up H&D sign. All of the direction signs were hand painted, the wedding pie was home made, the linens were all collected by Heather, and even Heather’s engagement ring was customized by Chris.”
I super adore their invitation suite, I mean, how can you not when you have a couple who are incredibly talented as Heather + Chris? I also love how they are not afraid to use bold colors such as yellow and red to showcase the playfulness of their wedding. Flower seed packets for favors? They totally have my heart!

Congratulations to Heather + Chris!!!

Laura + Doug’s Rustic Lakeside Wedding

At the center of every wedding is an amazing couple who is blissfully in love!  Laura + Doug are literally smack dab, dead center in today’s beautiful lakeside wedding snapped up by Johnny Vy Photography, and I am blissfully in love with this wedding! In every sense of the word, they were surrounded by the people and things that they love and cherish the most.  Proving that a personalizing your wedding doesn’t necessarily require a lot of resources, just the always-around-you-forever-meaningful people and things that make you happy.

From the photographer:

In a world of commercialized weddings, Laura and Doug were a throwback to the old school way of doing things, and that’s what I love most about them.  This wedding was full of personal touches, starting with location. Doug had grown up around the lake, and it was great to hear all the stories that were told by his father and groomsmen. It really made me realize how closely knit this entire group was, and it really showed. All the little details were not overlooked, and these two really took D.I.Y a step beyond the norm.

Johnny wasn’t exaggerating either.  All of the centerpiece bottles were from Doug’s collection that he’s had since he was child.  Laura and Doug personally grew the flowers that they used.  And those cutie-pie pencils, well good thing Johnny Vy also carries a pocket knife along with his camera, since a couple of the guestbook pencils needed some sharpening throughout the day.  Talk about going beyond the DIY call of duty.  I’m kind of obsessing over the chicken wire seating chart with soda pop table names.  I don’t know about you, but I think may have to make one of those just to hang pictures in my home now.     See!  Inspiration for your wedding and yo home, how cool!

Well, it’s for certain that Laura and Doug and the center of each other’s world, and Johnny Vy Photography did an amazing job of capturing that and every little detail central to this fantastic gallery.  Thank you for sharing this wedding that’s sure to stay at the center of our hearts for a while, and congratulations Laura and Doug!

Lauren + Dallas’ Outdoor Engagement

Oh, Deer!  One look at these photos and you’ll understand why Shane Welch was so excited to join Lauren + Dallas for a wonderfully woodsy Wisconsin engagement session. From the photographer:

When Dallas sent me an email asking if I would be interested in traveling to northern Wisconsin to shoot their engagement session I almost jumped out of my chair! These types of locations are everything I dream of for photoshoots. Their family has owned a spot in this little community for decades, and every detail made me wish I could live up there!

Between the sprawling picnic scenery, the serene natural glamour of the stream and Lauren + Dallas’ stellar style; I’m kind of like a little doe-eyed deer that’s anxiously waiting for the next fantastic pic.  Shane Welch Photography has really captured every natural moment this shoot had to offer.  The entire gallery cannot be missed!

I think I’ve found my new happy place!  The sweeping view, the photos, the peaceful and pure love that Lauren + Dallas exude above all  of those I will return to whenever I have a bad day.  Thank you Shane Welch Photography for sharing this stunning session with us.  Congratulations Lauren and Dallas!

Nicole + Greg’s Canada Cottage Wedding

Today’s wedding is not only an example of eco-friendly wedding inspiration, and wedding weekend fun; it sets a new bar for DIY.  Talk about making it your own!  Everything from the mini canoes and floral arrangements to the shirts on their backs and even down to the rings was handmade.  Nicole and Greg’s goal was to a summer camp, destination type weekend wedding where their guests could enjoy Greg’s family cottage on Otter Lake in Ontario, Canada.  The organic, woodsy wonderfulness was captured brilliantly by Teresa Rehmann who also shared all of the little details of this sweet and relaxed celebration of love.

From the photographer:

The weekend started with their sunrise ceremony on Friday morning, after the couple went for a canoe ride around the lake.  For Greg and Nicole, creating their own ceremony and rethinking the meaning of marriage and the purpose of the celebration was a crucial part of the weekend. They worked with Greg’s dad and uncle, both ministers, to create a ceremony that reflected their values and interpretation of life-long commitment.  This led to some DIY tradition creation!  They chose to include an old Celtic tradition of handfasting, performed by Greg’s brother and his partner, and for which they handmade a beautiful hemp rope.   Greg’s mom and brother collaborated to write and perform a song of the promises Greg and Nicole wrote, as a gift for the newlyweds.  Greg and Nicole also took a ring-making course and made their own wedding rings!

Other DIY elements included the chalkboard signs and glasses, outdoor seating on hay bales, a “memory tree” guestbook, and log stump seating.  The little canoes on tables were made by hand and Greg’s mom crocheted little butterflies for favors.  The flowers and boutonniere were made by a friend from wildflowers and twine.  Nicole’s parents hand weaved Greg’s shirt, and as well!) and Nicole’s mom made her blue shawl.  Thank you Teresa Rehmann Photography for capturing the fantastically laid back, budget-friendly, beautiful details of this woodland wedding.  Congratulations Nicole and Greg!  Thank you for sharing your sustainable and attainable DIY ideas!

Abby + Matt’s Summer Camp DIY Wedding

Abby and Matt held their wedding at the place where they met – Camp Manitou in Oakland, Maine.  The couple had worked there together so it was the perfect familiar and welcoming venue for their fall ceremony.  Guests even stayed in the camp cabins!  The bride designed and decorated every aspect of the ceremony and reception, from the lanterns, to the twinkle lights, to the table runners, with the help of friends and family.

The couple specifically requested their first kiss be captured with all their guests in the background.  It’s an amazing shot perfected by the DIY chuppah billowing in the breeze.

I’m loving this photo.  Wedding parties with personality are totally awesome.

One of the couple’s DIY projects was this very organized table seating chart.

Reception lighting gorgeousness.  Well done, Abby!

Congrats Abby and Matt!

Megan + Wil

I love a good romantic wedding. Give me a photo gallery of soft rustic charm, warmth, and swoon-worthy details, and I’m a happy girl. When Megan and Wil decided to make their long-distance love permanent, they settled on a gorgeous venue near her family’s home in Washington for their special day. They used pinks, peaches, oranges, and creams to create their beautiful color palette, and the rustic setting of the day highlights the juxtaposition of textures and DIY details.

Tiffani + Adam

Charming and sweet is how I would describe today’s Real Wedding. Tiffani and Adam had a wonderful outdoor wedding, and built their day from the ground up. The couple created and collected all the decor for the tables, a friend catered the entire shindig, and Adam and Tiffani crafted their own wedding rings.

Jaimee + Diego

I don’t know what it’s been about this week, but we have been all over the brightly colored weddings and today is no exception. The wedding of Jaimee and Diego is not only bright, but sweet and intimate and currently tugging on my heartstrings. They are just such a great couple, and Jaimee’s mother showcased their love by completely overhauling her backyard to create a great DIY wedding day.
