Kieu + Kevin’s Modern-Boho Canadian Wedding

Each and every couple are what make my job awesome!  They add all the unique and irreplaceable elements that make no wedding equal.  And Kieu + Kevin?  Well, they are certainly no exception!  They have managed to infuse equal parts of tradition and whimsy, modern and minimal, with eclectic boho style and yet remain the stars of this show!  You just know these two are great to be around!  R.A Photography was there to capture this totally amaze wedding where the sum of all the pretty little details glow just as bright as Kieu and Kevin’s smiles.

From the photographer:

Almost 90% of the details were done by the bride, groom and their families. Even the DJ was the groom’s friend and is in the bridal party. I loved all the special little details that made this wedding truly unique and special to Kieu and Kevin, especially the instagram photo posters they had hanging around the venue. What made this wedding even more special is that Kieu was 3 months pregnant on that day which made their celebration extra special.

Kieu’s insanely talented aunt is the floral goddess behind the utterly amazing floral crown and bouquets.  She also made the beautiful cake that played off of the Native American dream catcher theme.

Oh! What a dream wedding we have caught here!  Thank you R.A. Photography for sharing this extra special day!  Congratulation Kieu + Kevin!  (If I’m doing my math right, should owe you a double congrats on the birth of your baby!)  Good luck with all that comes your way!

Shannon + Michael’s Fun Brooklyn Winery Wedding

I’m in a New York state of mind today for obvious reasons.  And after coming off a trip to sight-see at Fashion Week,  I have a larger than usual soft spot, for my hometown and its peeps.  So when I saw Shannon and Michael’s Brooklyn Winery wedding from L&L Style Photography, well I remembered why I love this city so much!  The people!  Full of style, fun, class, cool kicks, and creativity, New York folks are just awesome!  I mean have you ever seen a bride rock a striped cardi with patches better?  So when two cool cats plan a dazzling and stress-free DIY wedding from 2000 miles away that’s full of spontaneous moments,  super style, and tambourines-  I’m pretty sure you’ll find hard to disagree that this this NYC wedding meets the high standard of awesome I’m come to know and love.

In true NY collabo style, this wedding wonder was achieved with a little help from your friends including a DIY pre-wedding dinner! From the Bride:

Our main goal for our wedding was to have fun! Thankfully, we are blessed to be surrounded by amazing friends and family who were more than willing to help make our wedding the best day ever! My sister-in-law designed our invitations, signage and the stickers for our tambourines and party favors. My mother-in-law printed them. I hauled a huge suitcase full of mason jars and half finished projects across the country. So, instead of a rehearsal dinner, my parents threw us a pizza/last minute prep party with our close friends and family. Each person contributed in everything from making props for the photo booth, putting together our guest book, creating chalkboard signs, hot gluing ribbons on the flower girl basket to hemming my petticoat.

Now if this wedding doesn’t give you peek into the fun-filled and style-soaked community that is New York, I don’t know what will.  From their choice of venue at the Brooklyn Winery(a must visit, BTW)  to the tasty treats both streetside and inside, to the tambourine slammin’, karoake singin’, party filled goodness this gallery from L&L Style Photography has once again turned me into a wedding adulterer. (Uuughh!!  Twice in the same day!  I’d be ashamed if it didn’t feel so good to share them all!)  Well, nevertheless, I can’t thank L&L Style Photography for so brilliantly capturing this truly New York style wedding and sharing it with us.  Congratulations Shannon and Michael!  Happy soon to be first anniversary!

Soureia + Johann’s Intimate NY City Hall Wedding

I love when I get to feature weddings from my home state!  And this next wedding is my perfect description of New York City, and weddings combined: simple sophistication.  Soureia + Johann wanted a small, non- flashy wedding.  With the equally edgy and modern eye of Michael Simonitsch Photography, we’re sharing a wedding that’s my kind of everything.  Minimal. Modern. Magnificent. Simple. Elegant.  And while it might not be flashy, it sure is gorgeous.

This awesome duo got married at City Hall with Johann’s musician parents playing in the background.  Soureia created the beautiful birds nest centerpieces used at The Mermaid Inn. And even though Birds of Paradise aren’t typically associated with NYC’s favorite feathered friends, these florals are just divine!

Each of these images from Michael Simonitsch Photography captures the magnificently simple, elegant and overpoweringly beautiful world that is Manhattan.  Soureia + Johann created everything that is New York to me, intimate and grand, elegant and edgy, romantic and oh, gosh!  I have to stop gushing over my new favorite wedding and my always favorite city.  Thanks for sharing this wonderful wedding Michael Simonitsch Photography.  Congratulations Soureia + Johann!

Sharon + Jonathan’s Travel Inspired Wedding

Happy Humpday lovely crafties!  If there’s one theme I love to see incorporated into a wedding it’s a travel theme because it is absolutely impossible to reproduce the same journey between two couples.  Sharon and Jonathan’s voyages inspired them to share their favorite destinations (minus the jet lag and lost luggage) with their favorite people in this awesome nouveau-classic wedding captured as pretty as a postcard by Elizabeth Scott Photography!

Perfectly planned by the girls at Mean Party who suggested the use of the vintage maps enveloping the ridiculously sweet invites and creating the custom cuff links and cool color palette in this wedding, this bash was equal parts bon voyage and bon appetit!  Self professed foodies, Sharon and Jonathan continued their theme by incorporating some of their favorite dishes from some of their favorite cities. Umm.  Can you say cheese steaks and pie?  It doesn’t get much better that!  Or does it?  Looking out the floor to ceiling windows of The Mint Museum in Charlotte was an experience in itself for all of Sharon and Jonathan’s out of town guest.  And it’s easy to see why!  The sweeping views, modern vibe, yet perfectly intimate feeling looks astonishing!  When you throw in the photography of husband and wife duo Elizabeth Scott Photography, you get one heck of a wedding journey!

I think the bride Sharon said it best:

With a clear vision and enthusiastic help from vendors, family, and friends we were able to give our guests a trip of a lifetime! Each and every detail came together beautifully and painted a picture of our love of travel and most importantly, our love for each other!  My advice to each couple starting out on their own wedding planning journey would be to make your wedding day your own. Incorporate fun aspects into your special day that are important reminders of the relationship between you and your significant other; I promise it will only make your day that much more meaningful and most importantly, memorable!

What a lovely vision they all created indeed!  We can’t thank you and Elizabeth Scott for sharing it with us!  Congratulations and many bon voyages ahead!

Erica + Alex’s Crafty Contemporary Wedding

If there’s one thing I get super excited about when reading through the bio’s of the weddings that you lovely crafties send in, it’s the words “graphic designer.” Because it never fails that when a graphic designer takes on a DIY wedding, it’s going to be crazy good! Erica + Alex certainly did not disappoint! Flipping through Gabriel Harber’s Photography’s gallery of this modern and colorful wedding I almost felt I had been whisked away to Oz. Transported to a land of protea, ranunculus, and succulents, Oh My! And chanting “I wish I was at this photobooth, I wish I was at this photobooth…” Erica + Alex’s wedding is a contemporary dream land of ruby red slippers, bright florals and fringed backdrops that is sure to get rid of any wicked witches that may be trying to keep you down. (Oh, and “Toto” has never looked so cute.)

Our beautiful bride Erica is the designer behind all of the creative goodness you see here today. You can see why I get so excited about a designer’s eye! This wedding has style for miles! From her vintagesque tea length gown and fascinator with fantastic pops of red combined with the modern slate bridesmaids, handmade button bouts and new, yet rustic Pizzaiolo backdrop this wedding, makes contemporary crafty my new favorite wedding trend! And tell me you don’t L-O-V-E that photobooth! Fringed crepe paper and some of the funnest (yes- that’s officially a word today) props and guests are leading me down the yellow brick road of good times.

No tornados here, just a whirlwind of great design and super style. And even though you might have to go home, you can always return to this wonderful wedding of Oz by visiting the fantastic gallery of uber cool shots (love the reverse first look) by Gabriel Harber Photography. Thanks Gabriel Harber. Congratulations Erica and Alex!

Robin + Paul’s Breathtaking Beach Wedding

Part two of today’s bonus holiday DIY wedding inspiration is sure to get you in the mood for some summer lovin’.  Full of romance and adventures in DIY, Robin and Paul’s St. Simon’s Island, Georgia destination wedding is the kind of wedding you that needs a hyperventilation warning.  Trust me, you’ll be gasping so much at the gorgeous photos of April Lambert Photography that capture such simple and modern holy-moly-beach-beauty there’s a good chance this wedding could truly take your breath away.

There’s just something about this one.  Maybe it’s the simplicity of the easy, breezy style of raffia and starfish and thinking of sinking my toes into the sand. Maybe it’s the way adoring, arbor building Paul looks at Robin that shows you how special their connection is.  It could be Robin’s handsome guitar playing son who broke a pick and caused an pre-ceremony treasure hunt across the island for a new one.  Or maybe it’s Robin’s screen siren style complete with beach curls and shell adorned gown that’s grabbing my attention?

Ultimately, I think it’s the fact that April Lambert Photography captured the relaxed and equally sophisticated style of a couple that is so very in love.  The kind of love that just takes your breath away and has remembering those summer nights forever.  Thank you April Lambert Photography for sharing this, and congratulations Robin and Paul!

Cierra + Martin’s Playful Engagement

Sometimes, no matter how good our intentions are to be offbeat and original, we can easily get lost the inspiration of all things wedding and suddenly find ourselves walking through the woods to get that gorgeous shot when the closest thing we get to the outdoors in our everyday lives is trekking through the jungle in the new Tomb Raider game.  Lucky for us, our DIY bride couples never lose sight of what’s important- YOU!  Kimberly at Hand in Hand Photography has sent us Cierra and Martin’s offbeat love shoot that proves just that.

From the photographer:

Cierra and Martin are amazing. and fun. and ridiculously in love.  For their engagement they wanted something totally fun and offbeat and went to the Family Fun Center in Edmonds, WA.  They wanted to have a not only a kick butt session but a great EXPERIENCE.

And kick-butt it was! (I just hope Cierra’s not kicking my butt in those fantastic mint heels.)  A perfectly playful and posh shoot that proves all you need is some real romance to ooze off the photos.  Thanks Hand in Hand Photography capturing that, and congratulations Cierra and Martin!

Karen + Ehsan’s Stylish, Homey Engagement

Home is where the closet is…No, I mean the dog…Wait sorry, I mean the DIY…Or something like that.  There’s just so much to love about this at home engagement shoot courtesy of Ama Photography and Cinema.  A beautiful home, a beautiful couple, a smiling pup and drinks afterward- sounds like elegant, modern perfection to me.

Karen and Ehsan just ooze simple and contemporary style.  (And it certainly doesn’t hurt to have a closet that I wish I could camp out in too!)  I love that they chose a setting that matches their style so well.   At the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about, isn’t it- creating a wedding and engagement memories that are all about you?

We can’t thank Karen + Ehsan enough for inviting us into their homes.  Congrats on your engagement!  And thank you Ama Photography and Cinema for showing us that sometimes the best DIY is homemade romance.

Elizabeth + Tobin’s Rustic Woodsy Wedding Weekend

I have yet to be invited to a wedding weekend.  When the invite does come though, I’m crossing my fingers that it will be a wedding like Elizabeth and Tobin’s  in Hidden Valley.   It just feels like such a down to earth good time!  With the cool grey and purple color combo, the rustic-y vibe among the trees, the fun modern chevron, Thai food, and some darling DIY and all; I just can’t resist but being sucked into every beautiful photo from Flutter Glass Photography.

From the bride:

“We love the outdoors and we are a fairly casual couple. With that in mind, I went for a laid-back, fun, and rustic style. I wanted to have natural elements but maintain a modern and fun vibe.

Mission accomplished Elizabeth!  I’m pretty sure I’ll be gathering some of my wedding treasures to bury in the woods this weekend.  I absolutely adore the curtained entrance and the ladder photo display which added a little bit of the indoors to vast outdoor setting.  The “seeding” chart was a fresh way of keeping things formal without being stuffy. Oh! And chevron- how I love your versatility!  This funky pattern provides just the right amount of punch that lets you know this wedding weekend is all about being chill and having a good time.

Congratulations Elizabeth and Tobin!

Lauren + Howard’s Retro-Artsy Texas Elopement

Well Howdy y’all.

It’s me, Rachel, the new addition to the DIY Bride team.  I’m so excited to be part of such a fun and creative community!  Now that my hazing is complete, and I’ve almost gotten all the glitter and glue out of my hair, (totally kidding, these girls are awesome!)  I finally get to write my first Real Wedding!  I couldn’t have dreamed of better first post.  When I got to first look over Lauren and Howard’s elopement in Marfa, Texas, I nearly spit out my New York “caw-fee.”

Lauren and Howard’s elopement is the kind of event that made me want to join the DIY Bride community.  It’s fun and creative with the perfect amount of tradition, and a whole lot of love.  It’s proof that a fairy tale wedding doesn’t always have to involve a poufy dress and horse drawn carriages.

Q Weddings Photography did a great job capturing Lauren and Howard’s spirit.  From the photographer: “Lauren and Howard chose their wedding date (11-11-11) because of the cool sequence of numbers.  Then they chose to elope to Marfa, Texas.  They had never been, but they are both artists and felt like exploring this renowned artist town would be a unique start to their marriage.”

Oh! What a great choice it was; shooting at one of the Donald Judd installations and El Cosmico trailer park created a great artsy, modern, yet retro vibe. Howard created the red “ones” that added an awesome modern, graphic element.  Lauren’s cute short dress, handmade fabric bouquet and birdcage veil were a perfect fit for the retro feel.  Throw in a cute pup in a matching sweater for “family” portrait and you have seriously simple diy perfection.

Lunch for Lauren and Howard was in a school bus and they stayed at the oldest trailer park ever!  While that might not sound very “fairy tale” for some, it’s incredibly unique, fun and retro.  A scrumptious looking chocolate cake just for two was the perfect hint of romance and tradition.  All that combined with the fact that they got married by Judge Cinderella!  Can’t get more fairy tale than that, can you?!

Congratulations Lauren and Howard!  Thanks for sharing your day with us!
