Taylor is a chef so he cooked all of the food and was able to smoke the brisket at The Porch where he works in advance. We helped a few friends with their weddings so they were amazing with returning the favor and setting the food out for us and watching it throughout the evening. (Ethan and Bonnie Phillips) Smoked brisket, smoked ham Mac and cheese, fingerling potato salad, mixed greens with blood orange vinaigrette, assorted homegrown pickled veggies, home fermented hot sauce, bbq sauce. The best part of the food for us was that we were able to grow all of the pickles and peppers for Taylor to make the hot sauce and pickles with! The only thing Taylor didn’t have his hands on was my fish. I am a pescatarian so unfortunately couldn’t eat the brisket.” – Mallorie

Mallorie was able to keep her wedding on a budget by shopping in unique places to get good quality items at an affordable price. Her wedding dress is Allure Bridals which was purchased on a Lakewood Facebook Yardsale. Alterations were done at Martha’s Alterations. The seamstress transformed the dress into something
that was magical! Originally, it was way too large and she made it fit like a glove! Mallorie’s shoes were purchased on Amazon and was Betsey Johnson but above all they were something blue! Her old and borrowed was Taylor’s grandmothers Bracelet that was passed down to Taylor’s Mother. It was a special treat for Mallorie
to take part in the heirloom.

Now on to a few groom details… Taylor wore a Combatant Gentleman suit paired with a tie from The Tie Bar. His shoes were Meermin Mallorca. He spoiled his groomsmen with Timex watches all with different bands. The
couple thought it would be fun to give the guys their favorite band t shirts to wear as undershirts. The groomsmen loved the personal thank you gift!

Mallorie couldn’t have celebrated with out her ‘maids by her side! She went with these VonVonni Bridesmaid dresses for the simple reason that all the dresses were the same and are able to transform into so many different looks!

“ Dawn Robinson made the most beautiful bouquets I have ever seen! My mom and Dawn have been best friends since they were 17 years old. She was one of the biggest power players in making this whole thing happen. My friend Katie Klein and I picked out flowers from The Flower Market. I made Taylor’s boutineer and
Katie made the rest. I put way too many projects on my plate and so many people swooped in to help finish them all.” – Mallorie

There were quite a few DIY and budget savy project Mallorie and her family took on. Mallorie saw a picture of a cake topper and decided she could make it herself, so she did and it turned out great! A close friend, Mallory Uvere makes cakes and cupcakes so she helped create the desserts for the evening. Mallorie bought the plates from a local wedding Facebook page. It just so happened that the woman selling the plates is a caterer. Mallorie shared her dilemma of the wedding coordinator quitting so she offered to step in. The box the ring bearer was holding was upgraded with a few DIY accessories. Mallorie used corks from random bottles in the house and hot glued them in as holders.

“I saw a similar altar on Pinterest and made it. I bought the wood and stained it. Hung lace curtains and put together some bouquets from craft store flowers. I took the birdcage from my backyard decor and it turned out beautiful! I put it up in my yard and realized I made it for a giant at first lol. Luckilly my sister threw a crafting bridal shower and one of my gifts was a full size Dremmel Saw-Max so I easily cut it down to normal person height. I bought used shepherds hooks and attached mason jars using ribbon. We then filled them with babies breath.”, Mallorie discussing her Do It Yourself Altar project.

Wine Box- I bought the box at Hobby lobby and cut corks and got glued them in to hold it steady in the box. The corks are from the wine we drank the day we got engaged. 🙂 We enclosed letters in the box and we will open them and drink the wine on our first anniversary.

From the small details such as Table name cards to the big details like the altar and aisle, Mallorie and taylor cut down the costs by making the decor and wedding necessities by hand or purchased and resurfaced. The couple was lucky enough to be surrounded by talented and giving people that used their talents to assist in making their wedding the best it could be! The DJ, the officiant, and a few other key
pieces of the night were good friends. It definitely made for a night of appreciation, love, gratitude, and togetherness!

Mallorie and Taylor saved on their honeymoon in a smart way! They attended their neighbors wedding in Colorado and then stayed with them to have a couples retreat in Colorado before heading back home

Real Wedding: Jessica + Joey David Lakeside Wedding

Over the moon to share one of our October weddings with y’all. Since the beginning of 2016 I have had the pleasure to work with the mother of the bride for this fun, rustic wedding at Hideaway Lake in Carrier, Mississippi. When I asked Jessica the bride what the inspiration behind the wedding day she said, “I told my mother that I wanted Vintage Chic, she incorporated that along with more than I could have dreamed of, and it came together beautifully.”

Fun fact is that Jessica and Joey met at in kindergarten at Pleasant Hill Elementary School in Pleasant Hill, CA. They were very close friends for 16 years before the two decided to start dating in July of 2007. Joey proposed on their 8 year anniversary at the same location he asked Jessica to be his girlfriend, at a lookout point in Berkeley, CA called Fish Ranch Road. It has a beautiful view of the San Francisco Bay and is stunning at night time lit up by all the cities lights. I mean, how precious!

We asked Jessica for some future advice for brides planning, “Think of what you are envisioning for your day. Mixing and matching Vintage, Rustic, Chic can be so romantic and there are so many ways to put a fun twist on it. The possibilities are endless…”

Favorite Memories of the Day: We had a lot of wonderful memories from our Wedding Day!

#1.) Seeing the look on his face when he saw me for the first time walking down the aisle. It seriously felt like no one else was there except for us. Sort of like tunnel vision.

#2.) We loved lighting off Chinese Lanterns down on the beach when it got dark out. It was a fun activity for everyone to do and made for beautiful photos.

#3.) Having so many of our friends and family fly/drive out to Mississippi from all over the country to celebrate with us. It was awesome that people were willing to make the trip, to a place most of them had never been before, just to see us get married. We felt so much love and support on our Wedding Day.

REAL WEDDING: Allison + Jerreod’s Artistic Wedding

Allison and Jerreod knew each other for over 15 years, but it wasn’t until a special trip to Paris that these best friends developed a deeper bond.  The couple really wanted to be hands-on with the planning of their wedding so they chose to get married at the Easley Family Farms for its beautiful grounds and laid back feel. Read below to see how this artist bride took her love for the arts and incorporated them and their unique family cultures into their June 20th wedding.

Since the couple was having an outdoor summer wedding they provided their guests with homemade program fans and handmade eucalyptus essential oil sprays.

Their ceremony was completely unique! They paired the Hindu 7 sacred vows of marriage with 7 specific flowers that were assembled into a vase. Notice the way she included a paint can into her ceremony space!

Handcrafted signs could be found all around their wedding and reception space!

Paint-dipped mason jars and paint cans as flower pots, tea lights with planted succulents and other bold and artsy elements made appearances throughout the day.

How about this for getting their guests involved and keeping up with the art theme?! They had a canvas guest book for guests to paint their wishes, date night Jenga, and the bride created a cartoon coloring book of Jerreod and herself for the guests to help color!

I truly loved this couples’ bold use of color and artistic flair that made their day a beautifully unique one! Congrats to this stunning couple.

Xoxo,

Alex

REAL WEDDING: Angila + Curtis Garden Wedding

We’re obsessed with this hidden garden wedding! Angila and Curtis are so adorable, and this wedding really shows how much they love eachother. I mean, look at his face as he sees her walking down the aisle!

The entire wedding party was wearing light neutrals which are perfection for a garden wedding.

Almost every details at the reception was made by the bride including her bouquet and the cake! Check out all of the gorgeous details.

This entire wedding looks like it’s straight from a fairytale. I guess this is the appropriate time to say, “…and they lived happily ever after!”

Real Wedding: Cori + Kevin’s Rustic Central Coast Wedding

Cori and Kevin have known each other since they were 14 years old. They were neighbors, went to school together, and Cori said that while they never dated in high school, she sure had a big crush on him! When she ran into Kevin at a Fourth of July party in 2007, she didn’t let him out of her sight. They spent the entire summer together, but when fall rolled around, he moved back to San Luis Obispo. The move wasn’t enough to keep them apart, and they decided to keep things going long distance. After what Cori refers to as “six months of shenanigans”, she decided to move to be close to him. It ended up to be the best decision she ever made, and since then, they have spent eight years on the Central Coast together.

Cori said that her wedding was a dream come true, a “rustic, DIY love fest on top of a mountain.”  They got married at a privately owned venue, a barn on a hill in Prefumo Canyon with panoramic views of the city. From the ceremony site you could see Morro Rock and the Pismo dunes, with the rolling hills of San Luis right behind them.  It was a gorgeous location.

Almost all of their vendors were close friends, so everything was personalized and customized for the couple, making the day extra special.  Friends and family supported them through the whole planning process and helped to make their day absolutely perfect.  She said it was the most special and glorious day that she could ever imagine!

Their dessert table was absolute yummy perfection! We love all of the different colors, homemade touches, and the array of options.

From the custom seating chart and multiple signs to the breathtaking backdrop and smiles on this gorgeous couple’s faces, this wedding was one for the record books!

Kathyrn & Scott’s Springtime Rustic Wedding

Near Southern California’s San Gabriel Mountains sits the lovely Historic Lindley-Scott House, where meet today’s couple, Kathyrn and Scott. The venue provided the perfect backdrop for this understated-yet-charming DIY wedding that’s full of steal-worthy rustic details.

Photographer Marisa from Peterson Design & Photography, gives us the details:

What a beautiful day Kathryn and Scott had! Much of the decor and details of this day were DIYed by the couple and a large number of things were hand-made by the groom! Scott loves woodworking so his love and talents were showcased through many beautiful elements throughout the day! He made all the signs, the gorgeous ring box, guestbook, advice box, lawn games, table numbers, the Mr. and Mrs. table signs and the cake stand! Simply amazing.

Way to go, Scott!

Kathyrn and Scott married at the beautiful Historic Lindley-Scott House in Azusa. We started off the day documenting some details of getting ready and the couple sending and receiving gifts from one another. Kathryn received a beautiful bracelet from her groom and a video was taken of Scott receiving his gift  – a watch – which Kathryn loved being able to watch before getting dressed!

After everyone was dressed, we photographed the bridesmaids with signs made by the bride. We then did a “not” first look with Kathryn and Scott as they held hands around a corner in the home and shared a few sweet moments, without seeing each other, to calm the nerves before the ceremony began.

Kathryn was escorted down the isle by her father and step father.  Scott’s reaction to seeing her for the first time was so tender and sweet!

Their officiant was the pilot who flew Kathryn and Scott over the beach in Laguna for their proposal. Scott had cut out giant wood letter spelling, “Marry Me” and as Kathryn was looking out the window, he presented her with her ring.  Their pilot-officiant had a wonderful time re-telling the story and didn’t forget to add the part where Scott was so nervous during the test flight earlier in the day that he had left his keys in the car with the engine running!  After some laughs, tender vows and being finally pronounced Mr. and Mrs. we had a great time with their bridal party taking some fun photos.

Scott gave his groomsmen personalized knives for their gifts so of course the boys had to take some fun knife shots  As the sun was setting we spent some time taking portraits of the new Mr. and Mrs. Wallick, including some shots with the custom chalkboard I made for them with their wedding hashtag.

The reception was held at the Lindley-Scott House’s carriage barn where the couple had created lawn games and a video guestbook where guests could record messages for the bride and groom. After being announced, the couple were toasted by their bridal party and dinner was served. Scott gave a special and emotional toast to his family and grandfather who had recently passed away. He also put together a slideshow of photos and everyone enjoyed seeing photos of these two as youngsters and then together as a couple. First dances were followed by bouquet/garter tosses, cake cutting and more fun dancing on into the night.

How’s that for a flawless and joyful wedding day?

Samantha & Taylor

Barn wedding lovers, unite! Today we have Samantha and Taylor’s beautiful wedding day that combines everything we love about rustic weddings – burlap, cowboy boots, mason jars, chalkboard signs, a great farm location – combining them in a way that’s uncluttered and unpretentious.

Photographer Kelly Rae Stewart of  Kelly Rae Stewart Photography gushes about Samantha and Taylor:

These two people are a perfect example of why we love being wedding photographers. Not only was I almost in tears behind my camera while watching Taylor say his vows to Samantha, but being able to capture their love for one another all day gave me butterflies in my stomach. They danced, not just for their ‘first dance,’ but all night. They stayed close together throughout the evening and watching them exchange smiles back and forth filled me with joy. I couldn’t put my camera down because I wanted to catch every moment for them. I wanted them to see what I saw. This is what true love looks like.

We love how everyone looks happy and joyful – just the way weddings were meant to be!

Haley + Seth’s Cute and Offbeat DIY Wedding

Today’s wedding is full of love, laughter, and DIY prettiness. Captured by Sur La Lune Photography, Haley + Seth DIY all their decorations. Coffee filter flowers? Check. DIY photo booth background? Check. Large piñatas that doubled as “hanging decorations”? Check. Come see for yourself how fun this wedding was!

Not only did Haley opted to not wear the traditional white, she and Seth also opted to get ready together and helped each other dress for their big day. Although Haley + Seth worked on many DIY decor projects, my ultimate love are the large coffee filter flowers that were carried by the flower girls. And how about them piñatas? What a fun, cool idea to have!

Congratulations to Haley + Seth!!

Courtney + Will’s Pretty in Pink Sewing Wedding

Today, we are bringing you a super cutesy, melt-in-your-heart, and sweet wedding from Kate Bentley Photo. This gorgeous DIY/rustic/sewing-themed wedding came to us from Wisconsin and features origami cranes, homegrown herbs, paper hearts, and a wedding dress made by the bride. Courtney + Will are so adorable together, and with their awesome family and friends by their side, this wedding is just too pretty for you to miss!

As mentioned earlier, Courtney made her wedding dress that was short and cute and very perfect for her wedding. When she wasn’t sewing her dress, she was growing all the herbs she used to make her unique center pieces. And can I just say, how awesome were the copper cans? Instant rustic-glam effects!

Obviously, Courtney + Will could not have pulled off this dreamy wedding without help. The beer served were made by their friends, and all the beautifully folded origami cranes were by Will’s mother. I love how by using different paper patterns, the cranes were all unique. One of my favorites were the pair that were used as cake toppers! Oh, and the cake was made by a dear friend of Courtney’s.

This sweet sewing-themed DIY wedding is filled with laughter, love, and creativity. I love their use of colors (I maaaay be slightly biased towards pink!), their way of doing “here comes your bride”, and all the sewing-related items that tied everything together. Courtney + Will are a fun-loving couple, and their wedding is a perfect extension of their personalities.

Congratulations to Courtney + Will!

Laura + Keith’s DIY Country Barn Wedding

For this beautiful Friday, we’re showcasing a DIY barn wedding from Gray Photography. Laura + Keith collected all the mismatched tables and chairs for their reception from Craigslist for a year. And with major help from the family, they were able to completely re-finished and decorate the barn, including growing their own moss, flowers, and gourds used for the wedding!

Something neat to share: amidst all the tables Laura + Keith had collected, one in particular was super special to the family. And that’s because one grandfather of theirs was born on that special kitchen table!

Great job on the awesome barn decor and much congratulations to Laura + Keith!
