DIY: Tissue Paper Tassel Garland

This tissue paper tassel garland was so quick and simple to make. I used it as decoration for my son’s first birthday, but this would also be perfect for a shower, bachelorette party, or photo booth backdrop.

Supplies

  • String
  • Scissors
  • Tissue Paper- I chose 3 complementary colors

Time

  • 15-20 minutes depending on the length of garland

Difficulty

  • This is so simple, but cutting the tissue paper can become tedious. If you need multiple strands, recruit some help to make the project go faster.

First you need to cut a piece of tissue paper in half.

Fold the piece of tissue paper in half.

Then fold it in half again.

Cut strips towards the folded side of the tissue paper. The strips should be about 1/2 inch wide and 1 inch from the top of the fold.

Unfold the tissue paper so the fringe is on both sides of the center line.

Roll the tissue paper tightly down the middle fold.

Fold the tassel in half over the string and twist to affix to the string. I also tied a knot around the tissue paper so the tassel wouldn’t move. Repeat with alternating colors until your garland is complete!

*When rolling the tissue paper I found it pretty difficult to roll the tassels super tight. However, it didn’t affect the overall tissue paper tassel.
