Today’s real DIY couple, Lucy + Ben, created the perfect example of a vibrant, sweet, and utterly personal DIY wedding
The Details:
Photography: Clark + Walker Studio
Bride and groom: Lucy and Ben
Wedding date: September 12, 2009
Location: Germantown, NY (a tented wedding at the bride’s family home)
Creative elements: Lucy and Ben got married at her parents’ home in Germantown, NY. Their wedding was filled with personal details, unique touches and special elements that made their celebration one of a kind. During the ceremony, Lucy and Ben stood on an oriental rug that was a wedding gift from Ben’s mother; that rug now plays a starring role in their new home. Their caterer used family recipes to create their menu and, in honor of Lucy’s well known affection for Pez dispensers, a pair of Pez dispensers topped their cake. They chose bright colors of red, orange and yellow with bright polka dot linens and vibrant flowers in shades reminiscent of fall. In lieu of a dj/band and dancing, they put together a playlist on an ipod and skipped the dancing entirely. Their 50 guests enjoyed dinner and then spent the evening in the tent enjoying intimate conversation and sharing memories and laughs. Lucy asked her two best friends – both men – to be her co-men of honor and skipped a maid of honor altogether.
What you loved about this wedding: This wedding was such a unique reflection of Lucy and Ben, their personalities and their relationship. They were so evidently in love and the guests so evidently happy to be there with them, celebrating this great couple on their day. The wedding was a really fun combination of traditional elements and very nontraditional elements that made it incredibly personal. It was a small intimate affair but huge on love.
