Kristin + David’s “Words With Friends” Wedding

We’re kicking off this week with a lovely yellow + grey scrabble-themed DIY wedding from Love Tree Studios. Our couple Kristin + David were encouraged by a mutual friend to start playing “Words With Friends” game with each other, and this beautiful friendship eventually bloomed into real love. Our bride Kristin is talented at DIY crafting and used her skills well to honor the game that changed their lives forever into a theme.

Let’s see, where do I start? So many lovely aspects to this DIY wedding. I love the large pinwheels that decorated the ceremony backdrop as well as vases of the yellow cut-out birds sitting on small bunches of white branches. I especially adore the different center pieces that Kristin created by choosing different photos of her + David as well as spelling out different words such as “cherished” with scrabble letters. And my favorite? Kristin’s gorgeous work on all the bouquets and boutonnieres.

Congratulations to Kristin + David!!!

Kelly + Matt’s Woodsy Backyard Wedding

You’ll never believe it! Two and a half months.  That’s the amount of time that Kelly and Matt were engaged and had to prepare this backyard wedding.  With a little elbow grease (and of course some strategic friends and family help), some shabby paths were converted into a forest chic pathway to wedding dreams!  Pond Photography was there to capture this simple, whimsical, outdoor wedding that I’m sure your going to LOVE!

Matt painstakingly cleared paths and cut down trees to create a dreamy woodland ceremony space complete with custom carved staircase.  Adorning the paths handmade signs and photo timelines led to a circular enclosed space where wood planks on hay bales created benches.    A beautiful fabric and lace banner, created by a cousin, floated in the trees and Matt’s sister created the thumbprint guestbook.  Mason jars and beautiful bright blooms added pops of color to create the simple, and easy look Kelly and Matt were trying to achieve.

Big thanks to Pond Photography for capturing this woodland fantasy so beautifully!  Congratulations Kelly + Matt!

Rachel + Andrew’s Country Barn Wedding

For their summer wedding in Missouri, Rachel and Andrew refurbished and decorated the groom’s family barn!  They installed electricity, poured a concrete floor, and hung homemade chandeliers made from mason jars found in grandma’s cellar. That’s some serious DIY!  The bride, a talented graphic designer, also made all the stationery, including the invitations, programs, and favor tags.  Throw in lots of burlap and cowboy boots, and you have the perfect vintage, rustic summertime wedding!

From the Bride: Andrew and I were married in the eastern Ozarks of Missouri, beneath the barn lights on June 16, 2012. Those who know us best would describe us as simple with a passion for life in the country and a tremendous appreciation for family. It was important to us, that the setting for our wedding would be true to these qualities.  Andrew’s family farm is home to a beautiful barn, built by his grandpa, Ottis Hampton, 65 years ago. With a little work and some TLC, we determined the barn would be the perfect place for our long awaited “special day.” Throughout the years, the barn became a special part of the Hampton family, and we were thrilled that it would become a special part of “us.”

Months of preparations went into getting the barn ready, electric was installed, a concrete floor was poured and many hours were spent cleaning. To add some ambience lighting, Andrew and I designed a piece that would personify all that we are. Andrew built a chandelier from mason jars found in his grandma’s cellar, an old tractor wheel, grapevine, wire, and lights to accent the barn’s interior.

While Andrew kept busy constructing “our” chandelier, I went to work designing our entire line of wedding stationary. The theme was fun and invited everyone to “save the date”. Our invitations consumed me, as I spent a great amount of time making sure they were just perfect; simple, but perfect. In addition, I designed our programs that also served as fans and slips for our party favors. The décor consisted of numerous family heirlooms and antiques.

Congrats to Rachel and Andrew!

Natalia + Ryan

As the weather has pretty solidly settled in for winter chill, I wanted to showcase a wedding that takes place indoors. Natalia and Ryan had a church ceremony followed by a ballroom reception, and it was stunning. Using a black, white and red palette to create a modern feel for the reception, the couple created DIY elements for the reception that really touched on their love of fun and the happiness of the day.

Tiffany + Trae

One of the biggest decisions in one’s wedding is, oddly, choosing a theme or color scheme. Nearly every design-related decision – from the invitations to the table linens to the boutonnieres to the bridemaids’ gowns – is based on the colors you commit to in the early stages of planning. I adore couples that get a bit daring with their color choices, stepping outside of the “safe” wedding palettes to create a color story all their own. Like Tiffany and Trae who’ve expertly combined red with aqua with stunning results. [
