Album Story

I was so excited when Lauren contacted me about their elopement! Lauren and Cody’s self solemnized, so their actual joining was very private and intimate. They wanted to surprise most of their family and friends, so keeping the secret beforehand added to the excitement! The first part of their elopement was at their favorite brewery here in Denver! We had a great time playing around in the brewery, especially on the bar made of books!! They also used first edition bottles from their home collection to announce the news! The second part of the elopement we went up into the mountains and had an elegant and intimate session at sunset.

Client Questionnaire

Q1: Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day?
A1: We wanted something that expressed our personal tastes, as individuals and as a couple. We self solemnized, so our actual joining was very private and intimate. We wanted to surprise most of our family and friends, so keeping the secret beforehand added to the excitement! We accidentally fell into a  late fall color palette, burgundy and blush, navy blue, with copper/rose gold. Our reception is going to be a modern winter cocktail party and we ended up choosing almost everything with that in mind!

Q2: Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?
A2: We literally did 0 decorating. We chose one of our favorite breweries which was already incredibly put together and then we relied on the splendor of Colorado mountains at sunset!

Q3: What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?
A3: My DIY Sola wood flowers are waiting at home in Ohio for our reception party this December. The day I was supposed to pick up a simple hand bouquet I fell ill and didn’t make it to the shop in time! We ended up with no flowers at all for our actual elopement, it’s a funny story now!

Q4: Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?
A4: We insisted that the whole day be personalized! We used first edition bottles from our home collection to announce the news and to toast (Lauren used metallic paint to write on the glass). We started at our favorite brewery and brought our dog along so she could be appropriately featured. We wanted to show off our home away from home and our reception has even more slated!

Q5: Let’s talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.
A5: Lauren – I knew I wanted a dusty blush dress for our time up in the beautiful Colorado mountains. I found the perfect dress online, of all places! I wanted something featuring some unique lace over my decolletage and shoulders but nothing too classic, since we are so untraditional! I also knew I wanted something that would keep me warm. In the brewery I wanted to channel the same ‘modern cocktail’ vibe we are using with our reception party later this year! I found the most incredible midi skirt from White House Black Market, the colors were perfect and the length showed off my amazing shoes! The shoes were the first thing I picked out so I knew they were going to be highlighted. It took a little hunting to find the right top to match the rest of the ensemble, but I ended up getting this super comfortable velvet body suit from Nordstrom which worked perfectly! I was comfortable, I stayed warm in the snow, and it photographed beautifully! I ended up loving my separates even more than the dress! Cody – For my suit I chose a classic style in navy blue with the intention to wear it again. My hope was to find something that would stand the test of time without being old fashioned. I wanted to make her look twice. When I purchased the textured slim cut suit I got a deal allowing me to choose a pair of more casual pants, the khakis were perfect for our time in the brewery. Highly recommend the custom suit experience, I didn’t want to take it off.

Q6: How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.
A6: We were lucky enough to meet at work, thankfully we had even more than career interests in common. We knew we wanted to get married and chose to do so quickly! We chose a date exactly halfway between our birthdays and made it work!

Q7: What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
A7: Lauren – For me the most exciting moment was getting to spill the beans! We had kept the secret for weeks and I was ready to shout it from the rooftops! Cody – Cracking open our first edition bottles with special friends. It was a special way to toast our big day.

Q8: Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?
A8: Keep it all about you! Don’t let anyone tell you what you ‘should’ do!
